About
Mission Statement
Fidei Catholicae’s mission is to provide a place where Catholics (and non-Catholics) can come and learn about the Catholic faith - it’s teachings, history, prayers, and what is going on in and around the Church today. The main page is where you’ll find articles of current events related to or affecting the Church today. Discussions can take place in the comments section associated with each article. In sub-pages and links in the left hand column you’ll find links to Catholic related topics.
History
Fidei Catholicae was started in 1997 as “The Sacred Heart Website” and over the years has transformed into various different formats. At one point, from 1998 through 2000, it hosted a fairly active Catholic message board. However, it soon went dormant (for various reasons) for a few years from 2001 through 2005 but has since went through a few attempts at revival. The most recent was the start-up of Domus Dei, a Catholic blog, in 2006.
Domus Dei has been successful and during it’s existence Fidei Catholicae again faded into the background as all efforts where focused on running Domus Dei. Recently, those currently maintaining Domus Dei have decided to change their format from a blog-based site to a more traditional static website. With that decision, Mike O’Brien, the founder of Fidei Catholicae and contributor to Domus Dei, has decided to take up where Domus Dei has left off. What this means is that Fidei Catholicae will retain the blog format that Domus Dei is abandoning. Essentially, Fidei Catholicae will “be” Domus Dei in the sense that it’s continuing it’s format. But more accurately, it will be Domus Dei and more since we plan on adding many more features. With that in mind, we look forward to continuing and expanding on what Domus Dei has started and hope that those who have supported Domus Dei during that last few years will support both Fidei Catholicae and Domus Dei in the future.
