Roman Vestments

The Pope is slowly steering the Church back to traditional aspects of worship. In the pictures below you can see the Holy Father wearing the Baroque form of the Roman chasuble, also known as the “fiddleback”, during Good Friday’s Papal Liturgy. This is something that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.

Today we almost exclusively see the Gothic form of the chasuble worn during Mass. As a result, the Baroque form is rarely seen anymore and has become a sign of traditionalism associated with Catholics who prefer the liturgical forms prior to Vatican II. The Holy Father intends to restore the traditionalism that was lost due to the poor implementation of the reforms the Vatican II and his latest step can be seen in the pictures below.
